Interview (Part I)


Part of commissioning for the ship was being subject to a lot of tests, one being shock trials. Shock trials are when they would detonate a 10,000 pound bomb close to the ship to see how it would hold up. There would be a countdown and you would hear three beeps then an explosion would go off. It would shake the whole ship. There would be multiple bombs, one a time, gradually getting closer until it was right next to the ship!

Throughout Thomas’s Navy career, he has been to thirteen countries, sailed three oceans, and two seas.
